Why Gardeners Toolkit was built
Garden projects often look simple until units and packaging collide. A supplier quotes litres while a drawing uses cubic metres. A lawn-feed bag gives grams per square metre. Paving is sold as individual slabs but the project begins as a square-metre area. A pond uses average depth for water capacity but maximum depth for the liner.
The site brings those calculations into one coherent set of tools and makes the assumptions visible enough to check. The aim is not to produce the largest possible library of tiny calculators. It is to solve common garden quantity problems well and connect them into project journeys.
How the calculators are built
Most tools start with standard geometry, a user-entered product rate, or a transparent coverage relationship. Units are normalised before calculation. Values that differ between products — bag volume, density, application rate, roll dimensions, spacing or wastage — are editable rather than presented as fixed facts.

How guidance is sourced
Mathematical relationships are separated from horticultural or product advice. For the latter, the site prioritises authoritative UK organisations and uses manufacturers or established suppliers for product-specific specifications. A supplier rate is described in its context rather than turned into a universal recommendation.
Why the project hubs matter
A useful garden journey is normally more than one number. A gravel job might need area, gravel volume, membrane roll layout and edging length. A new lawn can need topsoil, turf or seed. The project hubs connect those jobs without pretending they share one formula.
Advertising and free access
Gardeners Toolkit is designed to remain free to use. The build contains reserved advertising positions that can support the resource after AdSense is connected. Those placements do not choose the editorial content, alter calculator results or sit between calculator inputs and the result. Until advertising is connected, the reserved positions stay collapsed in normal use.
Corrections
If a result looks wrong or a source has changed, please report it. The most useful correction report includes the page name, the inputs used, the result shown and what you expected instead. Use the contact page for calculator issues, outdated guidance or site-related questions.
