Planting & spacing

The calculator can count a layout; the plant label, nursery or reliable guidance should decide the spacing.

Keep the project decisions separate from the arithmetic

Spacing is centre-to-centre geometry

Square grids, separate row spacing and staggered layouts give different densities. The calculator exposes the geometry without claiming one spacing suits every species.

Bed area is only the start

Known square metres can estimate density, but a rectangular layout can also show rows and plants per row. Irregular beds are better measured first and treated as an approximation unless the design is fully set out.

Containers and raised beds are separate fill jobs

Use the pot or raised-bed calculators for growing-medium quantity; then use Plant Spacing only for the planting layout.
